Profit booking on banking stocks caused the MSM index to retreat from its intraday high as the session progressed. MSM 30 benchmark index settled at 6847.88 points, losing 0.32% from the previous close. At the session close, Galfar Engineering was the most active in terms of turnover and volume. In the banking sector, National Bank of Oman and Ahli Bank shares advanced while shares of Bank Muscat, Oman International Bank and Bank Dhofar declined. Shares of Galfar Engineering continued its climb while shares of Al Hassan Engineering declined after yesterday’s gain.

Shares of Maha Petroleum, Oman United Insurance, Oman Fisheries, Al Jazeira Services and Renaissance Services were down by 2.80%, 1.67%, 1.41%, 0.77% and 0.50 % respectively.

Recent surge in crude price coupled with regional sentiment led the MSM30 index to extend its rally. MSM 30 benchmark index closed with a gain of 0.87% before closing at 6879.72 points. At the session close, National Bank of Oman and Al Anwar Holding was the most active in terms of turnover and volume. Significant buying interest was seen on banking stocks during the session. Shares of National Bank of Oman, Bank Muscat, Bank Sohar and Ahli Bank closed with gains while shares of Oman International Bank declined. Jazeera Steel Products and National Aluminium shares saw a downward movement in share price after its recent rally. Construction sector stocks also advanced during the session.

The MSM 30 Index ended the first trading session of this week up by 1.31% to close at 6,810.74 points as compared to the previous trading session. Jazeera Steel Product, Al Anwar Ceramic Tiles and National Aluminum Products were the most active in terms of volume, while Bank Muscat, National Aluminum Products and Jazeera Steel Product were the most active in terms of turnover. Bank Dhofar bonus shares were listed today in the regular market.
